PHILIPPINES, FACE IT! CHALLENGES OF ALTERNATIVE LEARNING SYSTEMS

Our educational system here in the Philippines is no longer limited to traditional classroom teaching wherein the teacher is the only giver of information. It is also extended to those who have learning disabilities, underprivileged, marginalize and poor.
The introduction of alternative learning systems in our country connotes negative impact on the minds of some people. Although the only aim is to help and support the aim of formal education attains its goals. Some issue that arises is that ALS is a detriment to formal education for reasons there is an easier way to get a diploma. Thus, it increases the numbers of drop outs in the traditional school just to enroll in the ALS program. But, we have to remember that this is not a good reason for us to criticize the ALS program.
I guess everybody agrees with me if I say that all programs only aim for a good purpose. It is only in the implementation of these ones that problems arises thus giving a bad/negative result in which we based our judgment.
Implementing the ALS program entails a lot of money, efforts and dedication. The first and foremost problem is corruption. All types of corruption lead to poor allocation of resources. In order to solve this problem, there must be strict and strong management systems. It must begin with the top management to discipline themselves for others to follow. In line with this one is the lack of learning materials. The mobile teachers are the ones making an effort just to solicit funds to buy those needed materials. They have to link with organization-be it private, religious and etc.  This is a reason why some of them prefer to transfer to formal school which is much better for security reasons and benefits. If only there’s no corruption so that needs of the students can be provided, then these teachers are motivated to their work with commitment and dedication.
Keep up the good work, mobile teachers!
